We all want to have a relaxing vacation with access to our funds. With a little planning you can avoid the inconvenience of a disabled debit card. Accounts are frozen for two primary reasons; fraud, unauthorized use by criminals, and suspicion of fraud when none has occurred. Card users are thankful when unauthorized use has disabled the card, but don’t want to be inconvenienced by a disabled card while traveling. Cards are disabled when an attempted transaction from a location other than where the cardholder lives triggers a fraud alert and freezes the account. The best way to avoid having your debit card disabled is to inform your bank when and where you plan to travel. That way, if a fraud alert is triggered, the person investigating will see the note and know the seemingly odd transaction is perfectly normal.
